Last night we were discussing the underlying philosophical and emotional causes that lead to sad, untimely deaths of icons like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston.
The death of the latest was most disturbing. It was only last April when I saw Houston in Paris where she was staying at the Fouquets Barriere Hotel. She was rushed to the American Hospital in Neuilly, a chic clinic in Paris for respiratory problems; in 2005 she was treated there for gastroenteritis.
It is most important to handle super stardom with some kind of engrained mechanism by the society. Super stardom breeds a 'streak of self-destruction.' It needs continued lessons of humility, of living humbly and connecting to normal people. But most important is that this connectivity has to be maintained even after achieving success.
All superstars, lottery winners, nouveaux riches should employ a shrink or a guru to help them maintain and groom the stability of their mind.
There is a direct relationship between wealth and mental equilibrium; one gets into drugs as other pleasures lose out their charm. How much sex can one have? Even total immersion needs a lot of vigor and partners. The imposed distance from simplicity of life and people who are ears and eyes for any human to live normally breaks down. Super stardom closes the door of catharsis which is the most important natural therapy for all of us; we need each other.
When that connection breaks and bodyguards take over, one effectively drops all connection with reality. Distance that creeps in with fame brings drugs closer. With drugs come a new high; drug infused highs have permanence of internal destruction. But it all starts with the false distance that is created from normalcy; all of these people come from very normal homes and backgrounds, it is greed of their agents and manipulators that lead them to the path of imposed isolation.
Distance and bigger distance is the prerequisite for great stardom. Agents and corporate ravenousness rear it to make more money and the asset more worthwhile; we as humans are usually orphaned by this callous exhibition of greed. Let them be normal, tell them to mingle with the crowds. That is the only way to be happy - to mingle, interact and love each other. Find a close friend, share things and life becomes good...and drug free.

Sadly, here we have, another life taken away prematurely.
